As a graphic design student, I find myself interested in poster designers, especially those who prefer minimalism. One of them is undoubtedly Professor Lex Drewinski. His works have a strong message; the style in which they are created makes them intriguing, minimalist and uncomplicated, making it rather easy to understand the intentions of the artist. According to Lex "In the poster subtract means add" and it is not difficult to see how he embodies this principle in life.
Professor Lex Drewinski was born on 11th Sep 1951 in Szczecin, Poland. In 1976-1981 he was a student at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. In 1992 he became professor of the Faculty of Graphic Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam (Germany) and since 2010 he has been professor of the Faculty of Graphic Design at Academy of Art in Szczecin (Poland). Drewinski had taken part in most significant poster exhibitions and competitions around the world and he has won more than 170 awards and distinctions. Drewinski's work fascinate the scale of his imagination. They address a wide variety of political and social issues. Very minimalist in its form and full of content posters, stand out and are characterized by the reduction of colour and minimalistic typography in favour of the image. By making them simple, Lex Drewinski can reach out to a majority of the public.
Here are some of my favourite posters by Lex Drewinski:
"A good poster is like a good joke, the quicker it gets to the punch-line, the longer it stays in your memory" Lex Drewinski
